VEHICLES (JUNE 10TH- JUNE 14TH)

This week, our summer camp theme is All About Vehicles! Does your little one love making tracks with wheels? Have your little racer drive their vehicles through the paint and onto the paper to create colorful tracks. Keep on reading for daily activities to do with your kiddos this week.

We have great activities all week long! Wednesday we will be at the Queen Creek Fire Station #1 for a vehicle themed field trip (member only). We have great car themed play after classes throughout the week!

Supplies needed:

    • Colorful popsicle sticks OR plain popsicle sticks + paint
    • Buttons
    • Glue
    • Mud - AKA dirt & water
    • Bucket or bin
    • Soap
    • Scrub brushes
    • Small towels
    • Cardboard
    • Painters or masking tape
    • Bananas
    • Strawberries
    • Pretzels
    • Toothpicks
    • Teddy grams or bunny crackers

MONDAY CRAFT: Tractor Craft

1. Take 2 popsicle sticks and lay them out vertically

2. Cut one popsicle stick in half, place vertically to the left of the full sticks with the rounded side up.

3.Place 4 popsicle sticks horizontally, stack these on top of the vertical sticks. Once you are happy with the placement glue the horizontal sticks on top of the vertical sticks.

4. Take the remaining half popsicle stick and glue to top right of the tractor to complete the vehicle.

5. Glue 2-4 buttons to the bottom of the tractor to complete the wheels

TUESDAY SCIENCE: Ramps & Maps

  • 1. Gather up all kinds of vehicles from around the house, cardboard boxes and painters/masking tape

  • 2. Use the cardboard to make ramps of all different sizes. Have the cars race, observe which go fastest, farthest, and slowest. You could even measure. Talk about why the cars did what they did. Have fun making guesses about what will happen and why.

  • 3. Bonus - use the tape to make roads and parking lots all over the house

    WEDNESDAY SNACK: Banana Cars

  • 1. Grab bananas, kiwi, pretzels, teddy grahams or bunny grahams, tooth picks, cutting board and child safe knife (if you plan to let your child help cut).

  • 2. Peel bananas and kiwi

  • 3. Cut bananas in thirds and kiwi into circles

  • 4. Use the tooth picks to attach the kiwi wheels to the banana car

  • 5. Add a pretzel steering wheel and a teddy graham or bunny graham driver

  • 6. Eat!

    THURSDAY: Story time!

    FRIDAY ACTIVITY: Mini mud pit & car wash!

    1. Grab tray, bowl or bin, mud, dish soap, scrub brush or sponge, towel and vehicles

    2. Mix up a bit of mud on your tray. Establish the rules “mud stays on the tray” or “if the mud is off the tray that’s showing me you are all done” “where does the mud stay? That’s right on the tray”

    3. Let children play with the vehicles in the mud

    4. Once they are done with the mud, send the vehicles to the car wash. Fill a bowl or bin with soapy water and let the children scrub the cars clean

    5. Lay them on a towel to dry
