COLORS Week, June 24th-28th

Week 4 - Colors Week

This week, our summer camp theme is all about colors! Little ones will explore mixing, matching, and even eating colors! Keep on reading for daily activities to do with your kiddos this week.

Supplies needed:

  • Colored construction paper

  • Glue

  • Paper towels

  • Food coloring

  • Small cups or jars

  • Toast

  • Clean paint brushes or Q-tips

MONDAY CRAFT: Color Craft

Color Craft - paper strips rainbow

  1. Gather up different colored construction paper

  2. Have children tare the paper into small pieces

  3. Glue the pieces in rainbow order to make a your own colorful rainbow art

TUESDAY SCIENCE: Color Science Experiment

Color Science - Paper Towel Color Mix

  1. Gather up your supplies, red, yellow and blue food coloring, 6 small jars or cups (clear work best) and paper towel

  2. Put a small drop of red food coloring in one cup, yellow food coloring in another cup and blue food coloring in another. Fill the cups that have food coloring about ¾ full with water. The other 3 cups remain empty

  3. Arrange your cups in a circle alternating a cup with food coloring next to an empty cup.

  4. Cut your paper towel into 6 strips and place one end of the paper towel in a cup with food coloring and the other end in an empty cup

  5. Repeat until the paper towel chain is complete

  6. Now wait and watch! This could take up to 24 hours. Talk with your children about making observation and check back periodically. Talk about primary and secondary colors and color mixing

Note: After some time the paper towels with saturate with one color and start filling the empty cups to mix and make a new color

WEDNESDAY SNACK: Paint a Toast

  • Color Snack - Paint a Toast

    1. Mix a few small dishes of food coloring and milk (water will work too)

    2. Make a piece of toast

    3. Use clean paint brushes or Q-tips to paint on your toast

    4. Eat your creation

    FRIDAY ACTIVITY: Color Hunt and Match

    Color Activity - Color Hunt and Match

    1. Lay out different color construction paper on the floor

    2. Have children run around the house to find items that match the colors of paper

    3. Place items on coordinating paper
